Research notes

What the evidence establishes

The bank's official history gives 1903 as Bruceton Bank's charter year. Federal regulatory history identifies Bruceton Bank as the surviving institution when it acquired its affiliate, The Terra Alta Bank, in 2005. The separate July 20, 1921 timeline entry concerns a confrontation at Bruceton Mills after a reported robbery at John A. Benson’s home in Brandonville. The contemporary newspaper account describes a suspected intended bank robbery; it does not establish that Bruceton Bank was robbed.
