About this collection and how to read these records

This directory draws on 392 images indexed and checked against the original records by Shirley Radabaugh. They include applications, site reports, questionnaires, maps, and an end-of-roll marker from National Archives microcopy M1126, roll 651, pages 314–705.

An application documents a proposal, not necessarily an operating office. These groups are a way to browse the records, not a final count of all post offices that operated in the county. “Checked transcription” describes the index review; uncertain handwriting, dates, and place-name relationships remain identified in the notes.

Only confirmed name groupings have been combined here: Harned/Harneds, Irona/Invermere, and Mason Town/Masontown. Other names retain their separate entries while research continues. Detailed postmaster histories are being added as original records are transcribed and reviewed.

Index last read: October 2, 2026.

Masontown-Morgantown route — NARA page 398
Filed following Bull Run application; no date or Bull Run label visible. Shows Morgantown, Tyrone, Dellslow, Rohr, Masontown, Kingwood and Tunnelton; intermediate places marked with no post office include Marilla, Pool Rocks, Johnson, Rock Forge, Oliver, Sturgisson, Iron Bridge, Lick Run and Cascade Falls. Gives Morgantown-Masontown distance as 13.3 miles. Ca. 1900 postal route map between Morgantown and Masontown. Shows B&O lines but no Morgantown & Kingwood Railroad, suggesting the map predates completion of the M&K through this corridor. Includes Dellslow, Rock Forge, Oliver, Stevenson, Iron Bridge, Lick Run, Cascade Falls, and Masontown, with route distances noted. Potentially useful for illustrating transportation/postal geography just before the M&K expansion.

Microcopy 1126, Roll 651 — NARA page 705
End-of-roll identification target reads MICROCOPY 1126, ROLL 651, END. No post-office location record. Retained in index to account for the final image in the downloaded sequence.
