Indigenous people are present in the Preston region

Archaeological literature reports isolated fluted projectile-point finds from Preston County, providing evidence of human activity here during the Paleoindian era more than 10,000 years ago. Later archaeological remains and early historical accounts also document Indigenous use of the region's river valleys, uplands, travel routes, and burial places. The surviving record is incomplete and does not support assigning a particular tribal identity to the county's earliest finds.
