Postmasters of Albright
Federal postal records trace Albright’s recorded postmasters from Samuel Albright, listed with the date June 19, 1856, through Victor G. Overbeck’s assumption of charge on September 3, 1958. Earlier registers record names and dates; the later card provides a more detailed sequence of nominations, confirmations, acting appointments, commissions, and changes in charge. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
These are dates recorded in the federal records, rather than a complete set of beginning-and-ending service dates. The earliest date reproduced here is not treated as the office’s establishment date, and the last entry does not establish when the office closed. Repeated entries in successive registers have been combined in the readable list, while the underlying records retain each source entry.
Earlier recorded names and dates, 1856–1929
Names follow the checked transcription. “Wm” is expanded to “William” for readability. Unresolved spelling variants remain visible; they are not treated as proof that two entries describe the same person.
Orville A. Beerbower — November 11, 1914; July 8, 1919. [5]
Mary M. Brown — October 23, 1920; September 5, 1922. Notations: “P&S”. [5]
Hattie Wichevire — May 31, 1925. Notations: “Pres. Act.”. [5]
Russell B. Gibson — October 1, 1925; December 18, 1929; December 17, 1925. Notations: “P&S”, “Pres. Act.”. 1929 and 1925 dates share a transcription cell and are not presented as term boundaries. [5]

The earlier registers were transcribed directly and checked by Shirley Radabaugh. The later card was transcribed by Leo and checked by Shirley. Both transcriptions were confirmed as checked on October 6, 2026. The earlier transcription was corrected and checked again by Shirley on October 7, 2026; this draft reflects those corrections.
Three readings remain unresolved: Jacob N. Welch’s “7 May 77” date; Jennings B. Campbell’s “?” under assumed charge in the 1934 appointment sequence; and Kathryn L. Hartman’s vacancy notation “Term. 903058.” No replacement dates have been supplied.
Hartman’s recorded assumption of charge precedes her acting-postmaster notation. Both dates are retained. The earlier registers also include “M.O,” “M.O 12 June 1899 NB. 14 May 1903,” “Pres,” “Pres. Jan 1, 1921,” “P&S,” and “Pres. Act.” These notations are preserved without using them to infer service boundaries. The spellings Albert G. Mason, Alfred Sphar, Hattie Wichevire, Lucien M. Albright, and Lucien M. Allbright follow the checked transcription.
Dates below identify the documents, not the office’s full operating period. Applications and proposed site changes should not be read as confirmed establishment or relocation dates. Original spellings and qualifications are retained in the checked index notes.
