Masontown High School burns to the ground
A fire believed to have begun with an overheated furnace destroyed Masontown’s twelve-room high school. Built in 1914 for $25,000 by Kingwood contractor Charles Spindler, the building was insured for $15,000; the Preston County Journal estimated the total loss at more than $30,000. Masontown had no fire protection, and none of the school’s new furniture was saved.
